The NHLPA has filed a class action lawsuit in federal court in Minnesota on behalf of the players, who have been denied a raise and will be required to pay back their salaries in full under a new collective bargaining agreement.

The union said the settlement would give the players a chance to “move forward with their lives” without worrying about “losing millions in income.”

The NHL has already announced it will allow players to choose between being paid in full or under a plan with a “pay for performance” system.

The players and their lawyers have said that would mean their salaries would be higher in 2019-20 than they would have been under a previous contract.

The NHL is expected to announce the agreement as early as Thursday.
